Job Title: Payroll and Benefits Specialist
FLSA Status:  Exempt

Job Summary:

The Payroll and Benefits Specialist will function as subject matter expert related to payroll and benefits duties. The incumbent will be responsible for the overall operation of the payroll process and functions related to successful completion and administration of weekly and bi-weekly payroll. This position will also oversee the administration of employee benefits, provide the expertise and insight on employee benefits. This role will also collaborate and engage in other HR related initiatives that are driven by department and site needs. 
 
Responsibilities:

• Process weekly, bi-weekly, and ad-hoc payroll with the upmost accuracy for union & nonunion team members
• Process union weekly and monthly dues in a timely matter
• Benefits administration including employee registration, employee inquiries, open enrollment, benefit deduction upload and other benefits related duties
• Provides necessary reports for location/billing charges
• Partner with finance and accounting team to provide necessary data and reports
• Update HRIS for relevant team member changes, ensuring compliance and data integrity
• Research and resolve system issues and respond to ad hoc system and reporting requests  
• Facilitate employee training sessions as needed
• Order department supplies
• Respond to 401(K) inquiries from employees relating to enrollments, plan changes and contributions amounts
• Process and administer leave of absence programs, including FMLA, disability, workers’ compensation, and personal leaves in accordance with law and company policies
• Maintain in-depth knowledge of pay and benefit laws. Keep current on legislation changes to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local pay and employment laws and regulations
• Provide HR operational support such as records, data management, assisting in the development and/or modification of company policies and procedures, unemployment requests, and other day-to-day tasks and activities
• Responsible for onboarding new team members, including new hire paperwork, benefits enrollment and scheduling/facilitating new hire orientation
• Collaborate with HR Manager to support and coordinate engagement activities and recognition programs; provide support for various HR and company-wide initiatives
• Serve as subject matter expert to team members for benefits, time and attendance, and payroll issues and inquiries
• Create and perform regular audits and reports to ensure compliance and data integrity in HRIS
• Is a visible steward for a positive culture and workplace and reinforces "One Team.”
• Execute annual projects and reports, including, but not limited to, year-end processing, W-2’s, ACA, and EEO reporting
• Other duties as assigned
 
Qualifications: Required Skills, Education, and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, or related field
• Excellent mathematical skills 
• 2+ years’ experience processing multi-state payroll
• Experience in supporting manufacturing environment 
• Ability to maintain confidentiality of information and exercise good judgment and discretion in handling and disseminating information
• Proficient in HRIS and payroll systems, and comfortable learning recent technology 
• Strong conflict management skills and comfortable participating in difficult conversations
• Excellent time management and organization skills. Must have the ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment
• Initiative-taking, self-directed, and motivated
• Intermediate skill level in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, & PowerPoint
• Demonstrate a strong internal and external customer service focus and a passion for innovative HR solutions and process improvement
• Collaborative work style and ability to develop effective working relationships
• Impeccable follow-through and attention to detail
• Timely and accurate execution of administrative HR responsibilities and compliance activities
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Knowledge of HR federal laws and regulations
 
Travel Requirements:

• Hybrid schedule – optional
• Less than 10% out of state travel required
• Local travel to Bolingbrook, IL on as needed basis
